Newest Miss Representation Trailer (2011 Sundance Film Festival Official Selection)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wow, watched this Powerful Trailer for the movie Miss Representation. It's so right on and exactly what I've been talking about for so long. There's hope for us yet, but we have a long road ahead of us.
I can only pray my child has a better life than mine when it comes to equality. Praying that Social Media is a big part of the solution and that we can all be Social Media Super Heroes and do our part to spread the word and stand up for ourselves and our children.
Miss Representation
Its so weird, because when I was young I thought we had come along way and I believed that I was equal. But time crept on and things happened that really opened my eyes.  I realized then how very much it is a man's world and that we are not treated equals, as much as I would like to believe otherwise.
In fact I think things have gotten much worse in the last 20 with the way media has evolved, with crazy videos pushing the limits on sexual images and films and TV focusing so much on violence and much of it violence against women.
While I've tried hard to not accept this fact, that there are such huge gaps in gender equality, and wanted to believe otherwise, I am forced to concede to the fact, that while "we've come along way, baby," in the bigger scheme of things, at this time, we haven't come that far after all.
So Come On Everyone, Men, Women, Children- Let's All Work together and correct this. Let's have a higher respect of Everyone. Treat others as we would like to be treated and let's hold the Media- "especially Film & Television & the Music Industry" - accountable. Let's do our best to educate our children so that we can turn things around. We can do anything we want IF we put our minds and hearts into it.
Miss Representation explores women’s under-representation in positions of power and influence and challenges the limited and often disparaging portrayals of women in media.
Writer/Director Jennifer Siebel Newsom brings together some of America’s most influential thought leaders in politics, news, entertainment, and academia, including Condoleezza Rice, Katie Couric, Geena Davis, Lisa Ling, Marissa Mayer, Cory Booker, Jean Kilbourne, and Jackson Katz, to give us an inside look at the media’s messaging.
As one of the most persuasive and pervasive forces of communication in our culture, mainstream media is educating yet another generation that a woman’s primary value lies in her youth, beauty and sexuality—not in her capacity as a leader.
Miss Representation premiered Saturday January 22 in the documentary competition at Sundance Film Festival and then traveled to the Athena Film Festival in New York City February 12.  To learn more, visit http://www.missrepresentation.org
